Mariolopoulos-Kanaginis Foundation (MFK)
The Mariolopoulos-Kanaginis Foundation for the Environmental Sciences was established in 1993 aiming to promote and develop the atmospheric sciences (Meteorology-Climatology and Atmospheric Physics). Its objectives include the development of environmental sciences with an emphasis on the reinforcement of studies relevant to the interaction of man with the environment and with cultural heritage, the award of honorary distinctions in recognition of the contribution of famous scientists who are involved in environmental sciences, the award of young scientists who are actively involved in environmental sciences in a joint programme with the UN World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) (§ 7.2.6, 47 sessionmWMO Executive Council, Geneva, 1996) and the administration of prizes and distinctions which are set up by the Foundation and relate to the objectives of the Foundation both nationwide and abroad.
The Foundation has organised several scientific conferences and events, as well as awareness raising activities targeting both the general public and school pupils.
Within LIFE-IP AdaptInGR, the Foundation contributes to the project actions for the primary and secondary education and leads the project actions fostering public and private partnerships to tackle climate change. Furthermore, it contributes to raising public awareness of climate change adaptation and to disseminating the project results.
