Within the framework of the information and training activities of the LIFE-IP AdaptInGR Project, the 9th consecutive Three-Day Training Seminar on the Adaptation of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace to Climate Change was completed on Wednesday, October 16, which was co-organized by the Green Fund and the Region of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace and hosted in the cities of Komotini (14&15/10) and Xanthi (16/10).

In particular, the aim of the Seminar was to provide the necessary knowledge and appropriate tools on climate change adaptation issues, mainly to representatives of decision-makers, executives of technical and other services, and other stakeholders affected by the impacts of climate change, with an emphasis on high-vulnerability sectors and sectoral policies of the Region of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace.

The Regional Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change, climate projections, the vulnerability of the Region in specific sectors, as well as good practices and adaptation tools, including those developed within the framework of the LIFE-IP AdaptInGR project, were the main axes of the discussion. Particular reference was made to the ongoing pilot implementation of the Project, which concerns the management of water resources in the Municipal Unit of Aigeiros, Municipality of Komotini, while the benefits presented through the action for saving water resources were analyzed.

Specifically, DEYA Komotini as a partner of the LIFE-IP AdaptInGR Project, through the innovative implementation of a pilot system for recording demand and dynamic management of supply using telemetry, aspires to be able to immediately detect changes in demand, as well as leaks, and to be informed at all times about the exact status of its network. The aim is to be able to immediately manage the quantity of drinking water supplied to the network, taking into account forecasts for future climate conditions in the region and their impacts on the water balance.

Key conclusions of the seminar include the need to collect and utilize available climate data and networking/coordination of bodies responsible for climate change adaptation issues.

The Three-Day Training Seminar on the Adaptation of the Region of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace was attended and participated by, among others: S. Stathopoulos, Secretary General of Forests of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, I. Androulakis, President of the Green Fund, A.
