LIFE-IP AdaptInGR: Three-day Training Seminar for the Adaptation of the Region of Central Macedonia to Climate Change

With the greetings of the Deputy Regional Governor for Development and Environment of the Central Macedonia Region, K. Yutikas, the General Director of Environmental Policy of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, K. Dimopoulos, the Mayor of Thessaloniki, S. Angeloudis, and the Director of the Green Fund, G. Protopapas, the work of the Three-Day Training Seminar on the Adaptation of the Region of Central Macedonia to Climate Change, which took place in Thessaloniki (Regional Council Hall and Hall of the International Center for Digital Transformation and Digital Skills), from 03 to 05 April 2024, has begun.

This is the 7th consecutive Three-Day Training Seminar implemented within the LIFE-IP AdaptInGR Project and organized by the Green Fund in collaboration with the Region of Central Macedonia. Corresponding Seminars and Information Days have already been held in the Regions of Western Greece, Crete, the Ionian Islands, Western Macedonia, Central Greece and the Northern Aegean, while similar events are planned for the remaining Regions of the country.

During the Training Seminar, the contribution of the LIFE-IP AdaptInGR Project was presented and discussed regarding policies (strategies and plans), climate forecasts, good practices (such as the creation of climate-resistant green public spaces and the installation of an Internet of Things system in the Municipality of Katerini) but also the available financial tools for the adaptation of the Region of Central Macedonia to climate change.

Special reference was made to the relevant Regional Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change as well as to the effects of climate change on the urban environment, water resources, the primary sector and the natural environment. Among other things, the stakeholders were trained in the methodology for assessing the climate resilience of the infrastructures required for the projects of the new programming period 2021-2027.

The Three-Day Training Seminar on the Adaptation of the Region of Central Macedonia to Climate Change was attended by a large number of participants, such as elected officials and technical service executives of the local and regional self-government, engineers and researchers of infrastructure projects, professionals in the primary sector, representatives of academic and research organizations and the society of citizens.
