Info-Day and Seminar of the LIFE-IP AdaptInGR Project entitled "Adaptation of the Region of Central Macedonia to Climate Change"

7th Information Day and Training Seminar of the LIFE-IP AdaptInGR Project, in Central Macedonia
The regional events of the LIFE-IP AdaptInGR Project continue, with the Information Day and the three-day Training Seminar on "Adaptation of the Region of Central Macedonia to Climate Change", which will take place in Thessaloniki, between 2 and 5 April 2024.

More specifically, the following actions will be implemented:

7th Regional Information Day
On Tuesday, 2 April 2024, 11.00-16.45, the 7th Regional Information Day on the adaptation of the Region of Central Macedonia to climate change will be held. The Conference is organized under the auspices of the Union of Greek Regions (EN.PE.), the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE), the Hellenic Society for Environment and Culture (ELLET), in collaboration with the Region of Central Macedonia.

The event is open to the public and will take place at the Regional Council Hall of the Region (26th October 64, Fix area). It is noted that no pre-registration is required for attendance and admission is free.

The purpose of the Conference is to inform and raise awareness among the residents of Central Macedonia about the adaptation of their Region to climate change, through the presentation of relevant policies and strategic plans.

The 1st Section of the Conference will feature a presentation of the Regional Plan for Climate Change Adaptation (RPCA) of the Region and presentations by distinguished speakers on the most important vulnerable sectors, as well as innovative technologies for addressing the impacts of climate change.

The Conference will focus on the following thematic sections:

  • Primary sector
  • Built environment
  • Water resources
  • Coastal uses
  • Fisheries - aquaculture
  • Agriculture

The 2nd Section of the Conference will include the screening of the film “Arid Land” by Vangelis Efthymiou (2011, 49 minutes). This is a record of the problems of desertification of lands in Greece and abroad. The film is particularly relevant today, in the era of climate change and the multiple challenges we are called to manage, offering food for thought for the present and the future.

During the break, the short film entitled “Climate Consciousness” will be screened, which won the Special Award in the Student Competition organized within the framework of LIFE-IP AdaptInGR in 2021 (participation of student Katerina Palioura from the Experimental High School of the University of Patras).

Three-Day Regional Training Seminar
From 3 to 5 April 2024, the Three-Day Training Seminar on the adaptation of the Region of Central Macedonia to climate change will be held. The Seminar is co-organized by the Green Fund and the Region of Central Macedonia and will be held in person as follows:

Wednesday 3 April: Regional Council Hall of the Region of Central Macedonia, 26th October 64, Fix area.
Thursday 4 and Friday 5 April: International Center for Digital Transformation and Digital Skills, 26th October 21, P.C. 54627 Thessaloniki.
The aim of the Seminar is to provide the necessary knowledge and tools to services and other stakeholders on climate change adaptation issues, with an emphasis on the highly vulnerable sectors of the Region of Central Macedonia. This new knowledge and skills will contribute to the implementation of protection measures against the negative impacts of climate change, to the exploitation of emerging opportunities and finally, to the successful implementation of the Regional Plan for Climate Change Adaptation and the shielding of the Region against its impacts.

The Seminar is addressed to three (3) categories of audience in the Region: (a) Decision-makers, (b) Executives of technical and other services and/or bodies of local government at first and second level, and (c) Interested parties (e.g. professional groups of sectors affected by the impacts of climate change). The Seminar is free of charge and a certificate of attendance will be given to those who wish to do so after its conclusion. It is emphasized that participation in the Seminar on all three days is not required for its successful attendance.

Registrations are made online by completing the registration questionnaire found here.
