The Region of Peloponnese, in collaboration with the Association of Regions of Greece (EN.PE.), the Central Association of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE), and the Hellenic Society for Environment and Culture (ELLET), is organizing an Info-Day entitled “Adaptation of the Region of Peloponnese to Climate Change” on Thursday, June 20, 2024, from 10:30 to 16:00.

The event is open to the public and will take place in the “Eptanisa” Room of the Grecotel Filoxenia Hotel in Kalamata. It is noted that no pre-registration is required for attendance and admission is free.

The detailed program of the Conference can be found at the following link: https://shorturl.at/yMygX

The purpose of the Conference is to inform and raise awareness among the residents of the Peloponnese about the adaptation of their Region to climate change, through the presentation of relevant policies and strategic plans.

In the 1st Section of the Conference, there will be a presentation of the Regional Plan for Climate Change Adaptation (RPCA) of the Region and presentations by distinguished speakers on the most important vulnerable sectors, as well as innovative technologies for addressing the impacts of climate change.

The Conference will focus on the following thematic sections:

  • Energy
  • Water Resources
  • Primary Sector & Agriculture
  • Built Environment
  • Tourism
  • Biodiversity

The 2nd Section of the Conference includes the screening of video clips on the impacts of Climate Change on the landscape and cultural heritage in Europe and the wider Mediterranean region. The video clips are particularly relevant today, in the era of climate change and the multiple challenges that we are called to manage, offering food for thought for the present and the future.

A presentation entitled “Adaptation of landscape, land use & cultural heritage (the case of Ancient Messina) to Climate Change” will then be held by ELLET, followed by a discussion.

During the break, the short film entitled “Climate Awareness” will be screened, which won the Special Award in the Student Competition organized within the framework of LIFE-IP AdaptInGR in 2021 (participation of student Katerina Palioura from the Experimental High School of the University of Patras).
